HMD has announced the Nokia X71 in Taiwan. The device has a hole in the screen for the front camera and a 48-megapixel camera on the back. The phone will be released in China; a variant for the western market may appear later.
The Nokia X71 is HMD’s first smartphone with a hole in the screen for the front camera. The screen is a 6.4″ LCD with a resolution of 2316×1080 pixels. The phone runs on the Snapdragon 660-soc, has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage. The battery has a capacity of 3500mAh and the operating system is Android 9 Pie.
There are three cameras on the back. The primary camera has a 48-megapixel sensor and the second camera is an 8-megapixel one with a wide-angle lens in front. The third camera has a 5-megapixel sensor and cannot be used to take pictures, but is used to estimate depth.
The device has a USB-c connection, a headphone connection and a housing that is largely made of glass. Both the front and back are made of glass, with a metal edge on the side. According to GSM Arena, the device will be released at the end of April for 11,900 Taiwanese dollars. Converted with VAT, that is about 417 euros. The website also states that HMD is likely to release the phone later in the western market with the name Nokia 8.1 Plus.
