The Finnish HMD is said to be working on a high-end Nokia smartphone with an OLED screen with a fingerprint scanner behind it. The phone, which is codenamed A1 Plus, would also get a Snapdragon 845-soc.

The German website WinFuture says documents have been seen about the development of the smartphone. It would be the new flagship of HMD. The current top model is the Nokia 8 Sirocco, which is codenamed A1N. The new model codenamed A1P is probably the successor to that and the manufacturer could call it Nokia 9.

HMD would use an OLED screen from LG for the device. It is not yet known what dimensions, proportion and resolution the panel has. The fingerprint scanner is behind the screen, just like the Vivo X21. According to the documents that WinFuture has seen, HMD had problems with the reliability of the fingerprint scanner behind the glass. That would have been solved by making the glass thinner.

Furthermore, the camera of the new Nokia device should play an important role. However, in what way HMD wants to distinguish itself from the competition is unknown. HMD has been developing the device since February and the new top model should be released sometime in the second half of this year. The introduction will probably follow in August or September. The device would run on Android P 9.0 at release.
