Hive Social back up and running after more than two weeks of maintenance
Hive Social has been back up and running since Friday, after the social media platform went offline on Dec. 1 to fix “security vulnerabilities.” It was not disclosed what the problems were. The app is live again on both iOS and Android.

Hive Social reports on Twitter that the servers are back online. In addition, the loading speed should be improved and the memory consumption reduced. In the last release notes further read that a bug has been fixed where images are not displayed in Discover. Hashtags and the ‘new’ section have also been re-enabled. Furthermore, a loading indicator is now shown when more messages are loaded in the grid view.
The developers of Hive Social reported earlier this month that the social medium would be taken offline indefinitely to fix security vulnerabilities “affecting the stability of the application and the security of our users.” According to the platform, this was a preventative measure and no accounts were compromised.
Since the acquisition of Twitter by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Hive Social – like Mastodon – has gained more prominence as a Twitter alternative. The social media platform was founded in 2019 by Kassandra Pop and has around 1.5 million users as of November 2022.
