Hive Social has been back on the air since Friday, after the social media platform went offline on December 1 to fix ‘security issues’. The nature of the problems has not been disclosed. The app is live again on both iOS and Android.

Hive Social reports on Twitter that the servers are back online. In addition, the loading speed should be improved and the memory consumption reduced. In the latter release notes further reads that a bug has been fixed where images are not displayed in Discover. Hashtags and the ‘new’ section have also been re-enabled. Furthermore, a loading indicator will now be shown when more messages are loaded in the grid view.

The developers of Hive Social announced at the beginning of this month that the social medium would go offline indefinitely to resolve security issues ‘that affect the stability of the application and the safety of our users’. According to the platform, this was a preventive measure and no accounts were compromised.

Since the takeover of Twitter by Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Hive Social – like Mastodon – has gained more fame as a Twitter alternative. The social media platform was founded in 2019 by Kassandra Pop and has around 1.5 million users as of November 2022.
