Hitman 2’s new Ghost Mode lets two players compete
Hitman 2 will have a competitive Ghost mode. Two players compete in two different instances of the same game world with the same targets. The first with five successful assassinations wins.
Developer Io-Interactive announces the new feature with a trailer. In the mode, players start without equipment, so everything has to be found in the game world. According to the trailer, if the opponent makes a kill, the other has 20 seconds to make that kill, but if there are witnesses to it, it doesn’t count. The fact that the worlds are instanced means that chaotic situations are only the problem of the one who causes them.
Cooperative play is also possible in Hitman 2. In the previously revealed Sniper Assassin game mode, two players can work together as snipers to take out targets. The second gunner makes it possible, for example, to take out a target and a witness of the first fire at the same time.
Hitman 2 is out on November 14 for PlayStation 4, Windows, and Xbox One. The future of the franchise was equally uncertain when it suddenly turned out that then studio owner Square Enix put the game maker in the shop window due to disappointing returns. However, Io-Interactive itself has gone through a so-called management buyout and is now a standalone studio, complete with the rights to the Hitman games.
