Manufacturer Hisense has presented a smartphone with only an E Ink screen. It is on the screen after a regular Android smartphone with Qualcomm-soc and 4000mAh battery that ten days of use should be possible. The phone should be released by the end of this year.

Thanks to the economical screen, the phone should last ten days, claims Hisense, according to Goodereader. It’s an E Ink Carta HD display, a 5.8″ panel measuring 13.2×6.6cm with a resolution Hisense refers to as ‘hd+’, presumably 1440×720 pixels. The screen can only display grayscale. The phone has a camera which can take photos and videos in color, but that is not visible on the phone screen.

The Snapdragon 660 is assisted by a RAM of 4GB and the storage is 32GB or 64GB. The phone runs on a virtually unmodified version of Android 9 and has access to the Google Play Store and other Google services. As a result, it can run all apps and games, although the frame rate is of course low.

While several phones have appeared in the past decade with a secondary screen of electronic ink, a fully functioning smartphone with only an e-ink screen and Android with Google services has not appeared in Europe before. The phone should be released at the end of this year for around 150 euros.
