High frame rates and fast loading times are prioritized on next-gen Xbox
In developing the next Xbox, with the working title Project Scarlett, Microsoft is prioritizing high frame rates and short loading times. Furthermore, a lot of attention is paid to backward compatibility. Xbox boss Phil Spencer released the new details in an interview with GameSpot.
According to Microsoft, the next-generation Xbox will be four times as powerful as the current Xbox One X. The extra processing power should, among other things, provide the highest possible frame rate and shorter loading times. “People love 60fps games, so it’s very important to us to make sure games run in 4k-60fps in the future,” said Xbox head Phil Spencer. About the loading times, he says that games will start ‘unbelievably fast’.
Another focal point at Project Scarlett is backward compatibility. “We think it’s important that all four generations of games will soon be able to run on the new platform. In other words: the original Xbox and Xbox 360 games that you play on the Xbox One today, Xbox One games and the new content for the next gene console,” said Spencer. According to him, it will also remain possible to play cross-gen with players with a console of a different generation.
The Xbox boss also revealed that the new console will be compatible with the controllers that gamers already have at home. “We know that many people take advantage of the opportunity to personalize their Xbox controllers, so we want to ensure that such controllers continue to be usable in the future.”
The next Xbox is likely to hit the market between October and December 2020, along with the Halo Infinite game.
