Developer Hideo Kojima has confirmed that his studio is working on Metal Gear Solid 5. The game will be made with the Fox Engine, but it is not yet known how far development is and for which platforms the game is being developed.

Hideo Kojima, the developer behind the Metal Gear franchise and head of Kojima Productions, confirmed to French magazine Gamekyo that Metal Gear Solid 5 is in development. The developer said that the game will be made with Konami’s Fox Engine, but did not want to say much more about it. Kojima did confirm that the game will once again revolve around Solid Snake and that it will focus more on infiltration and interaction with other characters, much like it worked in Deux Ex: Human Revolution.

Kojima emphasized in the interview that the Fox Engine footage shown so far is not representative of Metal Gear Solid 5. The tech demo shown in a video interview with IGN was intended to show lighting effects in the engine, but served no other purpose. . It is also not yet known for which platforms the game will be made.

Although Kojima didn’t confirm it, it seems that Kojima Productions will develop the game itself. The Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which will be released in 2013, is still in development, but that game is mainly made by development studio Platinum Games. In addition, in the video published last year, IGN asked Kojima about “Kojima Productions’ new project,” after which Hideo started talking about the Fox Engine. In addition, Kojima Productions was looking for about twenty new developers at the beginning of this year for the next ‘MGS’, which should also be released on PC.

It’s not the first time Metal Gear Solid 5 has been mentioned in an interview with Hideo Kojima. The UK Official PlayStation Magazine featured Kojima on its cover in November 2011, hinting that the magazine would contain information about Metal Gear Solid 5. That turned out not to be the case; Kojima had simply said that Metal Gear Solid 5 “supposedly needs to be made someday.” The project now seems to be a lot more concrete than it was then or than Kojima wanted to reveal.
