Hexacores are the most popular CPUs among Windows gamers according to Steam Survey
Most Steam users on Windows have a hexacore CPU, according to the Steam Hardware Survey. Previously, quad-core CPUs were the most popular CPUs among Windows gamers. More than two-thirds of all Steam users have a quad or hexacore CPU, according to the Survey.
The market share of hexacores has been increasing for years, at the expense of quad-core CPUs, according to the Steam Hardware Survey. Since March have hexacores took the lead among Windows gamers. Of the participating Windows gamers, 34.22 percent have a CPU with six cores. 33.74 percent have a quad-core CPU. The third most popular CPUs are octacores, with 17.72 percent of all CPUs.
Quad-cores have long ceased to be the most popular CPUs among macOS gamers. Unlike Windows, here octacores are the most commonly used CPUs. Of the participating macOS gamers, 37.29 percent have an octacore. Only among Linux gamers are quad-cores still the most popular, at 35.61 percent.
Looking at all the Steam Survey participants, quadcores are still the most popular. Although it probably won’t be long before hexacores take over the lead here too: this may already be the case next month. Of all Steam Survey participants, so with all operating systems together, 33.65 percent have a quadcore and 33.09 percent have a hexacore. Last month this was still 35 and 31.7 percent.
