Here uses sensor data from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz for live traffic info

Here, the map service of a consortium of German car manufacturers, has made the Here Real-Time Traffic service available. This provides users with live traffic information, based in part on sensor data from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars.

Here is making the Real-Time Traffic feature available to all users of its service. In order to provide real-time updates on traffic information, the company collects data from sensors from Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz cars. The sensors help determine how busy the roads are, whether there are traffic jams and whether incidents have occurred.

In thirty-one of the sixty-five countries where HERE provides full road coverage with its service, Real-Time Traffic can provide warnings about safety. According to the company, this function uses the sensor data from heavy braking, among other things.

Here claims that the number of car manufacturers that will provide sensor data will increase in the future. This should not only improve the Real-Time Traffic function, but also help develop advanced driver assistance systems and systems for fully autonomous driving. Real-Time Traffic is Here’s first service to use the sensor data. In the future, Here Hazard Warnings, Here Road Signs and Here On-Street Parking should be added.
