Here Maps will no longer be available in the Windows Store from May 29, and the service will no longer be available on Windows 10 Mobile after June 30. The navigation service will continue to work on Windows Phone 8, but will no longer receive map updates.

The Here apps worked on Windows 10 via a work-around, but that will stop on June 30, the development team said. “If we wanted to continue to offer the Here apps for Windows 10, we would have to build the apps from the ground up, a scenario that led to the decision to remove our apps from the Windows 10 store,” the blog reads. of the service.

The developers recommend that Windows users use Windows Maps for navigation and map material. This service from Microsoft is partly based on the Here Platform. The Here apps will continue to function on Windows Phone 8, but the developers are limiting themselves to fixing bugs with this OS. The service will not receive updates with new maps.

Here was a large division within Nokia, which acquired the map material with the acquisition of Navteq in 2007. When Nokia’s telephone business was acquired by Microsoft, Here was not part of it, but Microsoft did receive a license to use the technology. The Here apps then also became available for iOS and Android. Last year, Nokia sold the cards division to a consortium of automakers, including BMW, Audi and Daimler. They promised to continue to provide licenses to third parties. Samsung and Amazon also use the Here Platform.
