Hello Games, developer of No Man’s Sky, has released a new expansion for the game, which mainly takes place underwater. The Abyss is free and available immediately.

Until now, there wasn’t much to do underwater on the many planets in the game. That will change with The Abyss, says developer Hello Games. With Next, the previous major update for the game, Hello Games has given the game world a major graphical refresh, which makes it possible to provide the underwater world with the necessary detail. This means that not only the rock formations under water look better, but there is also much more flora and fauna to be found. You can discover many new species of plants and animals. including the necessary animals that are very threatening to you. Hello Games promises that there will be underwater monsters bigger than your spaceship.

The Abyss, or version 1.7 of the game, also contains more than twenty new modules with which you can build a base underwater, for which you need, among other things, the necessary new resources that can only be found underwater. The expansion also contains the necessary new storylines, around alien ruins that you can encounter underwater. In order to move better underwater, you not only have a diving suit, but also a jetpack and even a small submarine, the Nautilon. It can be upgraded to provide, among other things, better weaponry. The Nautilon is available on every planet you travel to. The Abyss is available immediately and for free, on all platforms. With The Abyss, No Man’s Sky is heading in the direction of Subnautica, a competitive survival game that was released earlier this year.
