Blizzard has announced that the online card game Hearthstone has passed the 70 million player mark. It’s unclear how many of these players are actually active and whether the developer has also factored in duplicate accounts.

Blizzard announced the news on Hearthstone’s official website. In February 2015, the game had 25 million players and in May of that year used to be that number rose to 30 million. As of April 2016, the game already had 50 million registered accounts. With the increase to 70 million, the number of players has more than doubled in two years.

The developer also announced that Hearthstone has set a record for most players launching a Hearthstone game online in one day with the Journey to Un’Goro expansion. Blizzard did not disclose how many players this was.

Blizzard says it is happy to have so many players playing the game. The developer has decided that Hearthstone players will receive three free map packs for Journey to Un’Goro during the month of May upon logging in. This also applies to new players who register.
