Hdmi Licensing LLC prepares quality mark for 4k-compatible hdmi cables
Hdmi Licensing LLC has created a certificate for HDMI cables that are guaranteed to carry video signals at the 2160p resolution of 4k. In addition to the necessary tests on the cables, the decision also includes a label that must be protected against forgery.
The company calls it the Premium Hdmi Cable Certification Program. It includes an extensive set of tests to verify that a cable meets the requirements to handle 4k content in practice. If the cables do not meet the 18Gb/s bandwidth of the HDMI 2.0 spec, they will not receive a certificate. Manufacturers can have their cables tested at Hdmi Authorized Testing Centers set up by the company. In addition to bandwidth testing, the cables’ resistance to electromagnetic interference is also examined.
When a cable passes the inspection, the manufacturer is allowed to stick the label, which must be ‘tamper-proof’, on the connection of the cable. In addition, the cable may then officially be marketed as a Premium High Speed HDMI Cable. Hdmi Licensing LLC even uses the Check If Real app that allows a user or other party to scan the label to verify the authenticity of the label and cable.
The difference between a Premium High Speed Hdmi Cable and a regular High Speed Hdmi Cable is not completely clear. Also of this cable type, the company states that the cable supports 4K. The label may be the only difference.
