HBO shares trailer for The Last of Us series, cameos for game protagonists
HBO has released the first full trailer for the upcoming The Last of Us series. In addition to Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie respectively, the trailer also features the two actors who play the same roles in the Naughty Dog video games.
The trailer shows roughly the same story structure as in the first game from 2013; Joel is a smuggler tasked with smuggling teenage girl Ellie out of the post-apocalyptic quarantine zone. It also turns out that Ellie may be immune to the fungal virus that has largely wiped out humanity.
Actors Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker can also be seen in the trailer. They play Ellie and Joel respectively in the two video games. In the HBO Max series of the same name, Johnson plays Ellie’s mother. Baker appears to be playing an accomplice of the evil David. It was already known that the two voice and motion capture actors would star in the HBO TV series, but so far it was not clear which roles they would play.
As previously announced, The Last of Us will be released on January 15 via the streaming service HBO Max. The post-apocalyptic drama seems to follow all the big story moments from the first game and will have ten episodes. Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in The Mandalorian and Narcos, plays Joel. Bella Ramsey, like Pascal, previously appeared in several seasons of Game of Thrones.
