Hasselblad presents clip-on camera for Moto Z phones

Camera manufacturer Hasselblad has presented the True Zoom MotoMod. It is a camera module for Lenovo’s Moto Z phones, with a 1/2.3″ sensor equipped with xenon flash, optical image stabilization and ten times optical zoom.

The True Zoom MotoMod completely replaces the camera of the Moto Z phones with its own lens, sensor and stabilization. For the on-screen controls and the battery, the module is dependent on the attached smartphone. The True Zoom can be clicked on Moto Z phones via the connection with sixteen metal pins on the back of the devices.

Hasselblad has screwed into the module 1/2.3″ sensor of an unknown type. The aperture comes out at f/3.5-f/6.5 and in combination with the grip, optical image stabilization, xenon flash, zoom control and camera button that can be pressed to focus, the True Zoom should mimic the user experience of a camera. Users can shoot photos in raw format. In video, the optical image stabilization is not usable. Hasselblad also provides its Phocus software for editing shot images. The True Zoom MotoMod will be released in the Benelux in mid-September for 249 euros.

In addition to the True Zoom, Lenovo also presented a third Moto Z phone. The Moto Z Play has a glass back, instead of the metal back of the other devices. The screen of the Play also has a lower resolution, while Lenovo has opted for a less powerful processor in the form of the Snapdragon 625. The Moto Z Play will be released in the Benelux in mid-September for a suggested retail price of 449 euros.
