Harebrained Schemes has been acquired by Paradox Interactive
The developer of games like Shadowrun and Battletech, Harebrained Schemes, has been acquired by the Swedish game publisher Paradox Interactive. The acquisition involves an amount of 7.5 million dollars, converted approximately 6.4 million euros.
Mitch Gitelman and Jordan Weisman, two founders of Harebrained Schemes, say their company will remain an independent studio and nothing much will change. Paradox confirms this and states that the management and creative teams of Harebrained Schemes will be preserved. Paradox pays 6.4 million euros for the acquisition, and there is an additional percentage of the revenues from the past five years. Weisman said the scale of the games created has increased and his studio needed a company that brings financial stability and marketing experience.
Paradox and Harebrained Schemes have already worked together on Battletech, the game developer’s most recent title. According to Paradox’s CEO, it was a “fantastic collaboration” and Harebrained Schemes is a world-class studio, with a talented team making games within a genre that Paradox wants to be part of. This mainly concerns tactical games with a strong story. Battletech is a turn-based strategy game in the Battletech universe, known for games like MechWarrior, MechCommander, and MechAssault. Paradox says it plans to continue to support Battletech with new updates and content. Harebrained is now also working on a new project.
