Halo 5’s Forge Level Editor Coming September 8 for Windows 10
Microsoft will release the Forge level editor for Halo 5 on Windows 10 on September 8th. Users can also test their custom levels in a multiplayer environment, but only their Xbox Live friends can join.
Microsoft will announce the news on the Xbox website. Forge on Windows 10 will be free and will support resolutions up to 4K and mouse and keyboard input. According to the Redmond company, this also makes it possible to place objects in the level with greater precision. Microsoft is also announcing that Forge on Xbox One is getting a new content browser that will make it easier for players to discover custom levels, game modes, and Forge Object Groups. Content created in Forge on Windows 10 will also appear in this catalog, but it is unknown at this time whether this content browser will also come to Windows 10 in the future.
In a post in May, Microsoft already announced that users can test their Forge levels in Windows 10 with 15 of their Xbox Live friends. They can’t play other levels. The Windows variant of the Halo 5 multiplayer doesn’t include matchmaking either, so playing with strangers isn’t included.
Microsoft wants to release more games through its Universal Windows Platform for both PC and console. Most recently, it was released as Forza Motorsport 6: Apex as part of that. That is a stripped-down version of the Xbox game, which can be downloaded for free from the Windows Store on Windows 10. The studio that makes the Forza games has already indicated that their future games will also get a PC version. Whether this will also apply to new Halo games is not yet known.
