Half-Life: Alyx gets support for Linux, Vulkan and mods including tools
The new vr game Half-Life: Alyx now has mods support. These are delivered through the Steam Workshop. In addition, the mod tools have been released and there is now support for the Vulkan renderer and the game runs on Linux.
The modding tools include Hammer, the level editor for the Source Engine 2, and other tools such as Material Editor, ModelDoc, AnimGraph, Source Filmmaker, and more. Several of these tools were already available, but have now been updated. In addition, a wiki has been set up especially for modding HL: Alyx. Steam Workshop support means users can view and install mods without leaving the Steam Client. At the time of writing, there are already 64 mods available in the Workshop.
In Linux, Half-Life Alyx works with the Vulkan renderer by default, but in Windows it is also available. Under advanced performance options, players can enable it. Alyx already worked on Linux via Proton, but according to users, this was not always without a struggle. Native support should put an end to that.
Half-Life: Alyx is the first new Half-Life game since 2007’s Half-Life 2: Episode 2. The game requires a VR headset, but as Valve itself expected, mods have come out to make the game run on a regular basis. monitor with keyboard and mouse.
