Half-Life 2 characters can finally blink again after five years

Valve released a much-needed patch for Half-Life 2 this week. Characters in the game have been unable to blink since 2014 due to a bug. As of today, Valve has provided the characters with some digital eye drops.

The update fixes some problems in the nearly fifteen-year-old game. This way the game no longer stutters when a player saves the game. Valve also fixed a bug that prevented combine soldiers from making a sound. However, these bugs are dwarfed by a much worse software bug that has plagued the game for five years. After all these years, the light at the end of the tunnel is finally in sight: Half-Life characters can finally close their eyes again. For half a decade, the residents of City 17 couldn’t blink.

In 2014, the bug was already reported via Valve’s GitHub page. Two years later, users found a solution to the problem, which was located under ‘c_baseflex’. The GitHub issue has since been closed as the bug has been resolved.

The cause of a lack of Half-Life 3 may also be known because of this update. Valve is still too busy with its predecessor.
