Hackers steal passwords from support forums Tapatalk
Tapatalk has been the victim of a hack in which, among other things, encrypted passwords were stolen from users of the support forums. Also, passwords in plain text may have become obsolete. It is still unclear exactly how much data was stolen.
On the support forums themselves, an admin of Tapatalk admits that hackers have penetrated the servers. Among the database details that have been stolen are passwords used to log into the support forums. Passwords used to log into the Tapatalk application itself would not have been stolen.
The stolen passwords are encrypted so that they are not immediately usable. Nevertheless, Tapatalk has sent an email to its users asking them to set a new password. Incidentally, at the time of the hack, some settings were also changed, as a result of which the user’s login data came into the hands of the hackers unencrypted: according to Tapatalk, the hackers already penetrated on December 9 and login attempts have been intercepted from that date. It is not clear how many passwords have ended up in the hands of the hackers.
Tapatalk is software that website builders can use to make their forum software suitable for use on mobile phones. A special API has been developed for this. The application allows users to use multiple forums at the same time.
