Hackers invade Winamp forum database

Hackers have hacked into the database of the Winamp forum and at least extracted the email addresses of an unknown number of users. Other personal data may also have been stolen.

Winamp notifies users whose email addresses have been stolen by the hackers with an email. There is also a topic posted on the Winamp forum revealing the hack. The topic only talks about e-mail addresses that have been leaked, but in an email to users, Winamp manager Geno Yoham writes that the company fears that encrypted passwords have also been stolen.

It is unknown what caused the hack to take place; Winamp merely states that the company has ‘identified’ and ‘blocked’ an attack. “Additional security measures” are also said to have been taken. The company advises affected users to change their password just to be safe.
