Hackers group deface Malaysia Airlines website
The hacker group Lizard Squad has defaced the website of Malaysia Airlines. The defacement took place via a DNS attack. The group claims to release information from the airline’s servers, but it is unclear whether the group actually has data.
The Malaysia Airlines website shows ‘404 – Plane Not Found’ and ‘Hacked by Lizard Squad’ on Monday morning. Official Cyber Caliphate’. According to the BBC, the site previously also showed the text ‘ISIS will prevail’, but that text would have been removed. According to the airline, it is a DNS attack and the company’s servers have not been penetrated. A dns hijack is the easiest way to deface sites, because third parties that host dns do not always have their security in order.
On Twitter claims The Lizard Squad will release data from Malaysia Airlines’ servers, but there are no indications that the group has actually cracked the company’s systems. The Lizard Squad gained great fame in recent months due to defacements and DDoS attacks on, among other things, game networks.
According to security researcher Brian Krebs, the attacks are intended as advertisements for a paid DDoS service. Several suspects of the group have since been arrested and the customer base for the DDOs service has also been exposed.
