Hacker of 240,000 credit card numbers gets seven years in prison

The US Department of Justice has sentenced an Estonian hacker to seven years in prison. He was involved in the theft of at least 240,000 credit card numbers and had previously pleaded guilty.

According to the authorities, 28-year-old Aleksandr Suvorov is guilty in two lawsuits found† In one, the hacker was found guilty of hacking into more than 80,000 credit card numbers at restaurant chain Dave & Buster’s. In addition, Suvorov tried to sell about 160,000 credit card numbers to a person, but this turned out to be an undercover agent. In addition to his seven-year prison sentence, the hacker must pay €675,000 in damages and a $300,000 fine, a New York court ruled.

Authorities claim that Suvorov and other hackers used a packet sniffer to steal credit card information. He secretly installed the software at a total of 11 Dave & Buster’s restaurants, after which the data was stolen.

Suvorov was the accomplice of Albert Gonzalez, who operated under the name Soupnazi. The latter was previously sentenced to 20 years in prison. This hacker would have caused a total of 200 million dollars in damage by cracking credit cards. He was responsible for stealing data from millions of credit cards.
