The infamous hacker group OurMine has broken into Variety’s servers. This gave it access to the magazine’s website, as well as its e-mail lists. As a result, the hackers were able to send emails to account holders at Variety.

OurMine announced the hack itself by posting a post on Variety’s website. That post has since been removed by the website administrators, and replaced by a statement about the hack. In it, the lifestyle magazine apologizes for the hack, and says it is working on a solution to the situation. However, no further details are disclosed, so it is still unclear how the hackers got in and how much information they stole.

What is clear is that the email lists have come into the hands of OurMine. As a result, users who have an account with Variety may have received emails from the hackers. Variety recommends deleting the emails with references to OurMine in them.

The hacker group was previously known for breaking into the Twitter account of the CEO of the social networking site. Accounts of prominent figures such as Mark Zuckerberg and Sundar Pichai also fell prey to OurMine. According to the hackers, they carry out such attacks to ‘test the security’.
