Hacker gets nine years in prison for stealing terabytes of nude photos via iCloud

A 41-year-old American has been sentenced to nine years in prison for stealing terabytes of nude photos and videos via Apple’s iCloud. The man managed to hack into the accounts of roughly 4,700 victims by means of phishing emails.

Convicted malicious hacker, Hao Kuo Chi, who went by the alias “icloudripper4you,” pleaded guilty to “conspiracy and computer fraud” in October last year. reports the US Department of Justice† Between 2014 and 2018, the man forwarded an unknown amount of nude images to a revenge porn forum, Anon-IB, which has since been taken offline, with the aim of intimidating and harassing his female victims.

It is not clear how much footage was captured by Chi, but he is said to have forwarded material from about 300 victims to accomplices. They would then have made the images public. Chi also kept 3.5 terabytes of nude photos for himself, which killed 500 women. It is not clear whether more perpetrators have been arrested in connection with the iCloud hacks or the exploitation of Anon-IB.
