Guillermo Del Toro may be working on Silent Hills sequel

Film director Guillermo Del Toro has posted a tweet that may serve as a signal that he is still working on a new game in the style of Silent Hill. If this is correct, he is probably doing this in collaboration with well-known game designer Hideo Kojima.

Del Toro and Kojima worked together in the past on horror game Silent Hills. The game, which was to be published by Konami, had even received a playable demo called PT, or Playable Teaser. However, in the course of development, Konami decided to pull the plug on the project for unknown reasons. Subsequently, Del Toro decided to stop working on video games, Kojima eventually left Konami and again the two decided to set up a collaboration again outside the Japanese publisher.

Should this be the project the two are currently working on, it will no longer be called Silent Hill. The rights to the franchise are still in the hands of Konami, as are, for example, the rights to the Metal Gear franchise, the brainchild of Kojima.

The game’s demo has been downloaded more than a million times since it was released, and the cancellation of Silent Hills caused quite a stir at the time. At a time when there seemed to be no hope left for a Silent Hill game born of a collaboration between the two men, another game developer even took it upon themselves to create a game in the same style. That game is Allison Road and is being developed by game studio Lilith and published by Worms developer Team17.

The tweet posted by Del Toro on April 30 features a screenshot of PT accompanied by the Spanish words for “good night.”
