Released exactly eight years ago, Guild Wars 2 will be available on the game platform Steam from November. The makers also announced that a third expansion for the game is expected next year, of which a teaser has been published.

The arrival of Guild Wars 2 to Steam doesn’t mean developer ArenaNet is shutting down its own launcher. It can still be used and existing Guild Wars 2 accounts cannot be transferred to a Steam account. ArenaNet does report that all players will play together in the same shared world, regardless of which launcher they use. According to PCGamer, the release of Guild Wars 2 on Steam will include necessary content from the game world, including The Icebrood Saga. The two previously released expansions, The Heart of Thorns and Path of Fire, will also be available on Steam and must be purchased separately.

In addition, publisher NCSoft and ArenaNet have released a teaser for the third expansion of Guild Wars 2, called End of Dragons. As part of this expansion, players are sent to the mysterious Cantha archipelago, which was cut off from the outside world for 200 years. Dragons will likely play an important role, but the creators have disclosed little further details. The End of Dragons expansion is scheduled for release sometime in 2021.
