GTX 1060 performs equal to GTX 980 according to leaked Nvidia slide
Slides have appeared about the GeForce GTX 1060, Nvidia’s unannounced midrange GPU. According to the leaked information, the gpu will receive 1280 cudacores, 6GB gddr5 memory and a tdp of 120 watts. Nvidia claims that the card is 15 percent faster than the AMD RX 480.
The slides have been published by VideoCardz and broadly show the specifications of the GTX 1060. It can also be seen that Nvidia is touting the video card with the motto ‘GTX 980 performance for all gamers’ and that the card should be released in July. According to rumors, Nvidia will present the video card on July 7 and the GPU would be in stores a week later. Earlier this week, a photo of the GTX 1060 appeared, which in appearance corresponds to the graphics card in the slides.
According to the image, the gpu of the GTX 1060, presumably the GP106, is equipped with 1280 cudacores. The GTX 1070 and 1080 have 1920 and 2560 respectively. The memory is 6GB gddr5 at 8Gbit/s. Although it’s not in the slides, VideoCardz reports that the memory bus is 192bit wide. This would bring the memory bandwidth to 192GB/s.
Furthermore, Nvidia claims that the GTX 1060 is about 15 percent faster than the AMD RX 480. In VR applications, that would be 25 percent, but it is not clear what the green camp is basing this on. The card would also be 45 percent more efficient. The tdp is according to the slides 120 watts.
Nvidia will want to compete with the AMD RX 480 with the GTX 1060. That video card performs similar to the previous generation GTX 970, but comes at a lower price. The 4GB version of the AMD card costs about 219 euros and the 8GB version is available from 269 euros. Presumably, Nvidia will position the GTX 1060 slightly above that in terms of price. The translation of a message from Benchlife seems to suggest the card does not support sli.
