GTA VI videos leak, hacker may put test build and source code online
An alleged hacker has posted 90 videos of GTA VI gameplay footage on GTAForums. It turns out to be real images. The uploader says he may leak more data, including a testing build of GTA VI and source code and assets from GTA V and VI.
In the conscious message from a GTAForums user registered on Sunday, named “teapotuberhacker”, links to the videos and a reference to his Telegram account. A recent update has since been added, in which the account holder reports that these images ‘unexpectedly went viral’ and that he received about 3000 personal messages on Telegram. He calls on employees of Rockstar or parent company Take-Two Interactive to sign up in a specific way through their official company email addresses.
The alleged hacker says he reads these messages from Rockstar and Take-Two employees extremely quickly and that he wants to “negotiate a deal”. He claims, also given his name, to be behind the recent hack on Uber; similar to that hack, the data for this GTA VI leak would have been obtained by accessing an employee’s Slack account. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two Interactive have so far responded to the leaked images or reporting from the alleged hacker.
In view of the multitude of images and the content of the videos, it soon seemed to be real images and that is now confirmed by game journalist Jason Schreier which has received confirmation from sources at developer Rockstar. He speaks of one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games’.
It concerns a total of 50 minutes of images of 3GB. Take-Two Interactive has already had the necessary takedowns performed on YouTube, among others, but at the time of writing there are also videos that are online. Below that is a clip with a robbery by a female character in a restaurant and a subsequent fight with the police. There are videos with conversations, robberies, gun battles and car rides.
Rockstar’s internal debug tools are visible in some gameplay footage. Schreier also states that this is early and unfinished material. Some images may already be from 2017. Earlier this year it only became clear that GTA VI is being developed, but it has been reported that work has been going on since 2014.
Based on the images, a earlier message from Schreier on Bloomberg to be confirmed; In it, he reported that the game will have a female character playable and that everything will take place in a fictional Miami. The latter is confirmed, among other things, by the fact that ‘Vice City’ is visible in some video clips. In total, about fifty minutes of images were leaked.
