GTA remasters are back on PC after launcher went offline earlier

Rockstar Games has made the recent remaster bundle Grand Theft Auto Trilogy available again for PC gamers. The company previously took the Rockstar Games Launcher offline. Once that was over, it turned out that the remasters specifically on PC were still unplayable.

Rockstar has now announced that Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is available again via the Rockstar Games Launcher. This applies to both playing the bundle and purchasing it. The company has apologized and said it is working on improving and updating overall performance.

The remaster bundle was released on Thursday, but the Rockstar Games Launcher went offline that same night. The company indicated that this had to do with maintenance. A day later, the launcher was back online, but not specifically for the GTA remaster for PC. So they are available again since Monday.

Several unofficial explanations have been made for the temporary unavailability of the PC versions. For example, there would still be notes from the developers in an uncompiled file, which would give an interesting insight into the working method and choices made by Rockstar. It also contained unlicensed music. Furthermore, reference is also made to the so-called Hot Coffee minigame, with which explicit sexual acts are possible after an adaptation of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, although the minigame may not be playable in current remaster versions.

What may have also played a role, is the broad criticism of the remaster collection. This is not only about performance, but also about the presence of bugs and glitches and the graphic quality that is judged to be poor. The bundle is generally rated very poorly by users on the Metacritic website.

Rockstar has outsourced development of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to Grove Street Games. That’s also the studio responsible for previous mobile versions of the trilogy and the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of GTA: San Andreas.

The bundle consists of remastered versions of GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas for the PC, PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The physical versions of the games will be released on December 7, and remasters for iOS and Android will be released next year.
