Grinding Gear Games Announces Path of Exile 2
Grinding Gear Games has announced Path of Exile 2. There is no release date yet, but beta testing should start at the end of 2020 at the earliest. Furthermore, extensive footage has been shown in the form of a trailer and a gameplay preview.
The Path of Exile 2 website states that the new game will feature both a new campaign and Path of Exile 1. Content that will be released for part 1 in the meantime will also be in part 2. In addition, goods purchased via microtransactions for PoE1 will also be valid in the future. The game also gets a new skill system, classes, an improved engine and more. The makers state that they will “apply a lot of frequently requested changes at once” in the sequel.
Path of Exile is a free-to-play game and while that isn’t explicitly stated on the webpage for part 2, it’s expected that it will also be free-to-play. Whoever sees the game for the first time will probably immediately recognize the Diablo-esque aspect of the game. However, players of the game state that the game contains more complexity and depth than, for example, Diablo 3. Platforms have not yet been announced, but the first part has been released for Windows, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Developer Grinding Gear Games is based in New Zealand, was founded in 2006 and released Path of Exile in 2013. That’s their only game so far. The studio is 80 percent owned by Chinese internet giant Tencent.
