Grid operator Enexis has been having problems reading smart meters for months
Grid operator Enexis has been unable to read some of the smart meters for months after switching to a new reading system. Users can therefore not see meter readings or consumption data in the app.
Due to a malfunction in the new Enexis IT system, thousands of smart energy meters have not been read in recent weeks, reports De Limburger on Friday. However, the problems seem to have been going on for much longer. As early as October last year, Enexis . reported to experience reading errors† These would have been caused by the switch to a new reading system.
According to the network operator, this switch was necessary ‘because the software of the old system was no longer supported by the software supplier’. At the time, Enexis indicated that it would solve the malfunction ‘in parts’, but users still appear to be experiencing nuisance.
The consequence of the malfunction is that users cannot see the meter readings of the smart meter on the app or consumption manager of their energy supplier. Some users also had to pass on the meter readings themselves to their energy supplier, because Enexis was unable to read and pass them on. The display of the smart meters would show the positions correctly.
Enexis requests users with problems not to contact them. “We identify ourselves whether you have a malfunction and try to solve the malfunction remotely. If this does not work, we will make an appointment with you to come by.” In a letter to users, the company reports that the energy meter ‘no longer works as it should’ and that the Enexis computer system can no longer make contact with the meter. Enexis does not report the exact details of the malfunction of the reading system.
