GoPro has announced a new compact camera that is smaller and lighter than the current Hero 4, but offers similar functionality and 1080p recording capability at 60fps. The Hero 4 Session is cube-shaped and can be operated with a single button.

The Hero 4 Session measures 3.81×3.81 cm and weighs 73 grams. This makes the action camera 50 percent smaller and 40 percent lighter than the Hero 4. The camera can shoot images in 1440p at 30fps, 1080p at 60fps and 720p at 100fps. In addition, it is an 8-megapixel still camera with burst mode of 10 fps and the ability to take time-lapse recordings at intervals of 0.5 seconds.

Activating the recordings is done via a single button on the top. Settings such as resolution and frame rate can be adjusted via the free GoPro app. In addition, GoPro sells a Smart Remote as an accessory. The Session supports WiFi and Bluetooth.

The gem has a battery with a capacity of 3.23Wh and this would allow recording 1080p images at 60fps for an hour and 45 minutes, provided that WiFi is turned off. When switched on, the battery life drops to an hour and a half, claims GoPro. The camera saves images in h.264/mp4 format, on a microSD card with a minimum Class 10 or UHS-I rating and a maximum storage capacity of 64GB.

GoPro has developed special mounts and accessories for the Session. such as a low-profile frame and a ball joint buckle. However, the compact camera is also compatible with existing GoPro mounts. Finally, the camera is waterproof to a depth of 10 meters.

The price of the regular Session is 430 euros.
