More details about an upcoming GoPro Hero4 Black have emerged. The camera will have, among other things, a touchscreen on the back and the battery opening has therefore been shifted to the bottom. Furthermore, there are new indications that the camera can shoot at 4k at 30fps.

The recent information leaked about the GoPro Hero4 has been compiled in a Reddit thread. The information comes from, among other things, product sites and brochures, firmware and photos. There seem to be two variants of the Hero4: the Black with new functionality and the Silver that will be identical to the hero3+ Black.

The case of the Hero4 Black appears to be identical in size to that of the GoPro Hero 3+, which should maintain compatibility with accessories. There are differences next to the LCD on the front: the Wi-Fi and recording indicator LEDs are now incorporated there. Furthermore, the opening for changing the battery is now at the bottom instead of the back. That back is occupied by a touchscreen. On the side is a settings button, where the WiFi button used to be. The battery life is also said to have improved, but the extent of this is unknown.

Furthermore, it has almost been confirmed that the Hero4 Black contains 4k images at 30fps: this can be seen in several photos of the device, on the LCD. According to a brochure, the frame rate has further doubled, which would indicate it can shoot 2.7k video, at a resolution of 2716×1440, at 60fps instead of 30fps. Furthermore, the Hero4 Black could take 12-megapixel photos. As for bluetooth and GPS support, it is unclear whether the body possesses this or whether a bacpac brings it to the camera. There are also indications for support for image stabilization.

The camera seems to be available on October 15. An introduction may come before that date.
