GoPro Hero4 Black gets 240fps option for 720p images via firmware update
GoPro’s Hero4 Black and Silver cameras are getting a number of new capabilities via a firmware update. The most eye-catching feature is a 720p video mode that shoots images at a rate of 240 frames per second.
According to GoPro, the 240fps mode at a 720p resolution is particularly suitable for capturing smooth slow-motion footage with the high-end model in the Hero4 series. Also new is a 60fps mode with a resolution of 2.7K. This video mode would be particularly suitable for capturing cinematic images.
A time lapse mode will be available with the new firmware versions for both the Hero4 Black and the Hero4 Silver. Also new is a burst photo shooting mode that shoots thirty photos in a 6 second period. With the also new automatic rotation mode, the camera images will be automatically flipped when the camera is hung upside down.
Finally, only with the Hero4 Silver, a user can indicate key scenes on the touchscreen, so that the later editing process can be simplified. GoPro plans to release the new firmware next month, but has not yet announced an exact date.
