GoPro Fusion camera becomes compatible with some high-end Android smartphones
The GoPro Fusion, a compact 5.2k camera for capturing 360-degree images with a horizontal resolution of 5200 pixels, now works with a number of high-end Android smartphones from Samsung, LG and Google.
The list of compatible devices includes the LG V30, the Google Pixel and Pixel 2, and the Samsung Galaxy S8. For Galaxy Note 8 and Galaxy S8(+), support for sharing the 360-degree videos is only available in certain regions. The Galaxy S7 does not support 360-degree video sharing, but it does support 360-degree photos in a limited way.
According to GoPro, the GPU libraries and different socs can affect performance, even if a device meets the minimum system requirements on paper. The Fusion is fully compatible with iOS devices running iOS10. According to Engadget, GoPro expects the list of compatible devices to expand over time, as the company says it is working on improving the stability, performance of the Fusion and sharing the images with devices.
The GoPro Fusion is a small camera that can shoot 360-degree videos in 5.2k horizontal resolution at thirty frames per second. If the resolution is lowered to 3k, that will be sixty frames per second. In addition to the spherical images for VR viewing, there is an OverCapture function for creating regular videos and photos based on the images shot with Fusion.
It was recently reported that GoPro is in the process of putting the company up for sale for a possible takeover candidate. The company is said to have hired investment bank JP Morgan Chase for the search for a buyer, although it is not certain whether the shares will actually be sold. It was previously announced that GoPro will stop making drones, partly because of the fierce competition in this market.
The company also reported that an additional 20 percent of its employees will be laid off, after which the company’s share price fell by 19 percent. TechCrunch recently reported that there will be 200 to 300 layoffs at GoPro’s drone division. In recent years, the company has already implemented various reorganisations.
