The manufacturer of action cameras GoPro has confirmed that it will launch a quadcopter in the first half of next year. A drone is the ‘ultimate accessory’ for owners of action cameras, according to the CEO of the company. In addition, the company comes with camera systems for virtual reality.

GoPro is working on its own quadcopter and aims to bring it to market early next year, company CEO Nick Woodman confirmed at the Recode site’s Code Conference. According to the CEO, drones are related enough to his core business to go on the market himself.

He talked about the ‘ultimate accessory’ that makes it look like a drone with a camera holder, and not an integrated camera. Drones with cameras are popular, but currently manufacturers such as DJI, Parrot and 3D Robotics are reaping the benefits.

Woodman did not provide details about the quadcopter, but he did emphasize that GoPro focuses on consumers, so a consumer price for the drone is to be expected. Last year there were already rumors that GoPro would come with its own drones.

Furthermore, Woodman said he will come up with a 360-degree camera system consisting of six cameras. Coming in the second half of the year, it can shoot 360-degree panoramic images for virtual reality goggles like the Oculus Rift and Google’s Cardboard.
