GoPro announces entry-level Hero+

GoPro is releasing an entry-level model of the Hero+ LCD, the Hero+. This action camera has to do without a touch-sensitive LCD, but unlike the real basic Hero it does have access to WiFi and Bluetooth.

The latest addition to the GoPro family weighs 123 grams and should function up to 40 meters underwater. As far as the other specifications are concerned, the camera is comparable to the Hero+ LCD. Movies can be shot in 1080p or 720p at 60fps, where the budget camera Hero reached 30fps. Unlike the more expensive Hero4, there is no option to run in slow motion at 120fps. The Hero+ takes 8-megapixel photos, but the 5fps burst rate is a lot lower than the 30 of the Hero4, which also shoots 12-megapixel images.

The appearance is similar to that of the Hero and Hero+ LCD: the camera is encased in a Plexiglas casing. To access the SD card slot or the micro USB connector, the user has to flip open the back of the case. The camera cannot be removed from the plastic case and does not have a removable battery or an HDMI output. The camera is of course compatible with the various GoPro accessories to pair the device with helmets, bicycles and other mobile equipment.

The camera is available immediately and costs 229.99 euros.
