Google’s Photos service gets shared albums and Chromecast support

Google has announced a series of new features for its photo and video service Photos. For example, there will be a possibility to share albums with other people and to fill them together with photos and videos. In addition, content from the app can be streamed to the Chromecast.

According to the internet giant, the shared albums will come to Photos sometime later this year, but it is still unclear when exactly this will be. However, it has been explained what the options are: with the shared albums it is possible to invite other people and to receive notifications when new photos are placed. Those invited to a shared album can easily copy all uploaded photos to their own library, Google demonstrated during an event around new Nexus devices.

Photos should soon also be able to communicate with Chromecast, so that photos and videos can be shown on a TV via the service. This functionality should be released for Android devices as early as next week. Furthermore, users will be given the option to tag photos and videos, which should make it easier to find specific content with the search engine. At the same time, Google uses machine learning to better ‘understand’ photos and thus be able to find them again.

Google released its Photos service some time ago. It should replace previous photo services such as Picasa and Google+ Photos. With the new service, Google promises unlimited uploads.
