Google’s Blogger service to ban nudity blogs

From March 23, sexually explicit photos and videos on Google’s blog service Blogger are out of the question. Existing weblogs with such content are made inaccessible to the general public, while it is no longer allowed in new blogs.

Only functional nudity with a ‘significant public interest’, such as in art, education, documentaries or science, will be allowed from March 23, Blogger writes. Existing weblogs featuring non-functional nudity, such as porn, will be private as of March 23. This means that they are only accessible to the owner and to users that the owner invites.

Owners of sexually explicit blogs can choose to remove the nude content, or to export the content of their blog and post it elsewhere. Anyone who starts a blog with sexually tinted content from March 23 runs the risk that their weblog will be removed, Blogger warns. The change puts an end to Blogger’s relatively libertine policy, which had previously allowed nude content. The service did issue a warning before such blogs were loaded.
