Google’s Blogger service largely reverses ‘naked ban’
Google has reversed its decision to ban nude photos on its Blogger service from March 23. The decision was allegedly made after Blogger was inundated with angry reactions from internet users who stated that the ban would hinder them in propagating their identity.
Earlier this week, Blogger announced that as of March 23, nude photos would no longer be allowed. Blogs that already showed ‘sexually tinted’ photos would be made inaccessible according to Blogger’s plans.
Blogger’s policy change came in for a lot of criticism: in a posting the Blogger Team said on the help forum that they had received many comments expressing dissatisfaction with the tightening of the rules. Many bloggers argue that the ‘naked ban’ would hinder them in propagating their identity.
In response to the criticism, Google has decided to roll back the total ban. However, moderators are going to check blogs more strictly for commercial porn. In addition, blogs that contain nude photos must indicate that they contain ‘adult content’, so that a warning page can be placed for the blogs.
