Google will release tool for backing up folders on computer in two weeks
In two weeks, Google will release Backup & Sync, an application for Windows and macOS to back up PC folders to Google Drive. Until now, Google only synced files that users place in Drive folders.
Backup & Sync is a merger of the current Google Drive application and Google Photos Backup, says the search giant. With the latter program it is already possible to designate any folder on a computer to upload photos. Backup & Sync can do that for any type of file.
The program is intended for consumers, and theoretically allows users to back up the entire PC. However, Drive has 15GB of storage as standard, so that will not be an option in many cases. However, users can choose to backup important documents in Google Drive, for example. Google will release the program in two weeks and the tool will be available to install from then on. The existence of the service came out in March when some users got the service on their computers.
