Google will release Android Wear 2.0 for existing watches in the coming weeks
Google will release the Android Wear 2.0 update for existing watches in the coming weeks. The LG G Watch R and Asus Zenwatch 2, among others, will receive the update, but the first generation of Wear watches, for example, falls outside the boat.
Google has put a list of models that will receive the update online. The LG G Watch R is apparently the oldest of these. That model came out in the fall of 2014. The first generation of the Moto 360, for example, falls outside the boat, although the models of the second generation do get an update. The Huawei Watch is also getting an update.
With the update, the watches will have access to watch faces to which third parties can add complications. That was not possible until now. Replying to messages via scribbles and a small keyboard will also be possible with the update. In addition, it is possible to install apps on the watch and to choose not to display apps that are on the phone with a Wear app on the wearable.
In addition, Google Assistant is available on watches. That is now only in English and German, but the search giant promises to release the digital assistant in more languages in the coming months. Wear 2.0 is the first major update to the wearables platform since its release in the summer of 2014.
The update will also be available on watches in the Benelux, the search giant says. LG presented the Watch Style and Watch Sport together with Google on Wednesday. Those two watches are not for sale in the Benelux for the time being.
