Google will release Android 7.1 in early December
Google has announced that Android 7.1 will be released in early December. A developer version will be released in October. The new version of the operating system includes the Daydream vr platform and app shortcuts are added.
The shortcuts allow users to perform actions, such as compose a message, from within the app icon. Developers can add up to five shortcuts to their apps, and users can access them by swiping up from the icon.
App icons can be round in Android 7.1, just like the launcher on the new Pixel smartphones. Furthermore, the update brings support for entering pictures from the keyboard. Earlier, a changelog of Android 7.1 appeared, in which more new details such as a blue light filter are explained.
Google first showed Android 7.1 when it announced its Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones last week. Now the manufacturer is giving details about the update for the first time.
The developer preview will be released later in October for the Nexus 5X, 6P and the Pixel C tablet. The new version should be ready at the beginning of December and then the Nexus 6, 9, Player and supported Android One devices will also receive the update.
