Google will delete data from new accounts after a year and a half
Google will delete the search history and location data after a year and a half for new accounts. That’s what the search giant says. Google will delete YouTube viewing history after three years.
For existing accounts, nothing will change, says Google director Sundar Pichai. However, users have had the option for some time to set Google to delete data after three months or eighteen months and those options remain.
Until now, there was no standard time frame after which Google deleted the data. Google says the data should be kept for as long as it is useful to users. According to Pichai, at Google, “privacy is at the heart of everything the company does.” In addition, the search giant says it wants to keep information safe, treat data responsibly and give users more control over data. Google makes money with personalized ads based on user data.
