Google will continue to support Chrome for Windows XP until April 2016
Google has announced that Chrome will end support for Windows XP in April 2016. Earlier this year, the internet giant said support would end at the end of 2015. Support for Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 will also end next year.
Google announces the end date of support for the Chrome browser for the old operating systems on its blog. As of April 2016, Chrome will still work on the affected OSs, but will no longer receive updates and patches for vulnerabilities.
It is the second time that Google has extended Chrome’s support for Windows XP. Initially, Google was supposed to stop releasing updates in April, but in that month the company announced that the phasing out would be postponed until the end of 2015.
At the time, Google gave the reason that Windows XP is still used by many people. This time there are no arguments for the extension, but Google does urge people to switch to a new and safe operating system. The OSs in question are no longer supported by Microsoft and Apple, except for Windows Vista. Vista will receive support from Microsoft until April 11, 2017.
