Android Police reports based on reliable sources that Google will announce its own ‘smart’ WiFi router at the event on October 4. The device should bear the name ‘Google WiFi’ and cost $129.

The router must be announced together with the Pixel phones, Google Home and a 4k Chromecast, Android Police writes. The sources relied on by the site are said to have provided correct information to the site in the past. The router must have ‘smart’ functions, but it is unclear what these consist of. One of the sources also claims that different access points can be connected to each other to form one large network. Also, the range of the device should exceed that of comparable routers.

In addition, the appearance of the device should roughly match that of a white Echo Dot from Amazon, which has an unobtrusive look. Android Police considers it possible that the router has functions that work together with Google Home. Google has already released a router before. For example, the company introduced the OnHub in collaboration with TP-Link in August 2015. After that, the company came up with a second version, this time in collaboration with Asus.

Google announced the “Made by Google” event for October 4 this week. It is expected that the Pixel phones will also be introduced.
