“Google wants to reward users who spend money in the Play Store with Play Points”

The Google Play Store apk contains references to Play Points. With this, Google seems to want to reward users of the download store who spend money. Points saved can be converted into balance for the Play Store.

Website 9to5google explains how Play Points works. The rewards program is not yet active, but code in the APK indicates that users get points for spending money in the Play Store. Specifically, in the Japanese download store, that would be one point for every hundred yen spent. Converted that is about 0.77 euros.

Users must explicitly indicate whether they want to participate and receive Play Points. People who register will see a medal icon in the Play Store and spending more money will unlock other medals. Reaching a higher level would bring benefits again.

The Play Store apk shows that the Account menu has been modified and a Rewards section has been added. In it, users would be able to redeem promotional codes and find special offers or free items. These rewards are likely related to the Play Points earned. Google itself has not yet announced anything about the Play Points. It is not yet known when the reward system will become active.
