Google turns on new long screen features in Android 12 preview
Google has added a few new features to the developer preview of Android 12 that are intended for long screens. The second preview version includes a mode to operate the phone with one hand.
The feature is reminiscent of the Reachability or Reachability feature in iOS and lowers the screen to about half, Android Police writes . This allows users to better reach the top of the screen. The function was already in the first preview version, but now the option can also be found in the settings.
In addition, there is a function to pull down the notification bar with a swipe down anywhere on the screen, the same site reports . By default, this should be at the top of the screen, but with today’s longer screens, it’s more difficult than it used to be for many users. The option was already in many launchers and can now also be found in Android. The swipe down works on any screen, including within apps.
The functions are clearly not ready yet: both options use the same gesture, a swipe down, and can therefore not be switched on at the same time. It is unknown how the functions will work in the final version of Android 12, which should be released around September.
